Can You Answer This Question About Moving
Sunday, September 6th, 2009Below, I have listed seven excerpts of conversations hat took place between a couple moving from Nashville to Fort Worth, and a company that moved them .The conversations spanned 6 days. I want you to decide which of these seven statements is true.
1) We can pick up your ” things in Nashville Thursday and have it in Ft. Worth by Saturday”
2) “we sent your truck to Florida for another move because you didn’t have enough stuff to warrant going to Texas.”
3) ” oh the truck broke down, you’ll have your things Tuesday morning.”
4) ” there’s been a delay, your things will be there this evening”
5) ” broke down”
6) ” couldn’t get a hold of the driver!!!!”
7) “they ran out of gas in OKLAHOMA”
Now without looking ahead, decide which one of these statements is true!
If you happened to choose statement 2, you are correct. Of the seven excerpts presented above, that is the only one likely to be honest.
Why, you’re wondering, is excerpt 2 correct? Excerpt 2 is the most likely honest because this company is an unlicensed moving broker. They make their money by landing jobs for companies who deliver goods around the country. Since the broker takes a hefty cut of the moving fee, the transport companies can only make a profit when their drivers deliver a large load, or more than one load, in a given direction. So this network of moving brokers has someone come and pick up the goods, from customer’s houses, place them in storage and wait until they have enough items going to a given area, to make it worthwhile for a subcontractor to take the load. In the meantime they feed the customer with a bunch of excuses to pacify him.
How can you be sure that excuses 5 and 6 are not honest? After all, these second rate companies frequently drive around in shoddy moving trucks that do break down. Look at this communication that took place on a moving scam bulletin board, 5 minutes before the couple heard that the truck had “broke down,” and “couldn’t get a hold of the driver.” A fellow victim sent this note:
” Like I said, they have 30 days AFTER the last listed delivery date to get your goods to you. They will probably stall by telling you “THE TRUCK BROKE DOWN” or “WE CAN’T GET a HOLD of the DRIVER” or just not answering your phone calls. That’s usually the progression of the lie - when in reality they’re just waiting to get another load on their truck to make the trip worth their while.”
This fellow scam victim knew exactly what the company was going to tell the impatient couple, because he had heard the same line so many times, in other stories about moving scams. But more importantly, as expressed in his own words, he knew the logic behind the excuses.
The story illustrates what happens in moves arranged through small internet brokers. Your belongings are liable to go from truck to truck to storage to storage, And quite often, the frequent moving will result in loss of goods and damage inflicted on surviving goods. To avoid this problem entirely, consider using a packing service and a container shipping service on your next move. Packing Service Inc. is a name you can trust in the packing service industry. They are a company dedicated to exposing moving scams. They will provide you with an in person guaranteed flat free packing and moving cost estimate. They only hire workers with a minimum of one year experience in the moving industry. Their experienced help will protect your belongings throughout the packing and loading process. And Packing Service Inc. will recommend a container company to transport your belongings in sealed containers that only you and your family can open.
